It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas No. 3–Traditional Holiday Vignette

Thanks so much for joining me for the third post in my It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas series.  If you’ve missed a post you can catch up here.
I’ve broken the house rules.  Our halls aren’t suppose to be decked until December 1st.  I couldn’t wait.  I’ve dismantled my winter décor (you can see it here and here) to make room for nutcrackers and candy canes.  The first area I’m going to share with you is the long dresser  (you remember – the one I got for …

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas No.1 – Christmas Morning Table

I’m so excited to kick of my, It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas series today!  It falls purposely in line with the Dare To DIY Challenge being hosted by Décor And The Dog, Maybe Matilda, Newly Woodwards and Two Twenty One.  Today’s “dare” is to entertain.  So that is exactly what I did this weekend.  Well, I didn’t actually entertain, I set a table like I might set one for breakfast on Christmas morning.
I figure, Christmas morning is the only day we can get away with having candy …

Open Shelving & Coffee Station Styled For “Winter”.

I caught the decorating bug when I styled my “winter” vignette in the entry way.  I don’t know what happened.  I thought cozying up that one corner would satisfy me, but it did the opposite!  I couldn’t help myself.  I figured as long as I stuck to the white and clear colour scheme I used to justify my “winter” decorations, a few seasonal items in the kitchen couldn’t hurt.  And hurt they don’t.  I’m kind of, sort of in love with the combination of branches and snowflakes I’ve stumbled upon.  …

Decorating For “Winter”

I don’t usually start putting up Christmas decorations until December 1st.  Not because I don’t want to.  I guess some people around here think that decorating in November is overkill.  Whatever.  If I had my way, the halls would be completely decked already.  But I try to be cooperative.  And by cooperative I mean, I look for clever ways to subtly break the “rules”.  I’ve started decorating for winter.  Not Christmas, winter.  Our front entry table got a seasonal transformation this weekend. It’s just enough to satisfy my desire to cozy …

Let’s Talk About Christmas!

It’s November!  When the heck did that happen?  As much as fall seems to be flying by, I’m happy that Halloween is over (I’m not really a lover of it) with and we can finally talk about Christmas!  I know this might feel too early for some folks, but for me, it’s time.  Today I wanted to talk about themes.  When you decorate for Christmas do you focus on a particular colour scheme and/or theme?  Or do you use the same nostalgic ornaments year after year?  I like to change …

A Picture Is Worth 4000 Words: Fall Photo

I’m taking advantage of fall.  I’m spending as much time as I can outside, while the temperature is as beautiful as the view.  Before you know it we will be snow covered here in Ontario, and while I love the way freshly fallen snow looks, I don’t love the below (well, well, well below) freezing temperatures that come with it.  This weekend we took a beautiful walk with the dogs and I capture a few fall images.  Here is my favourite.  I’ve edited it four different ways and of course …

Falling For Fall Photography

It’s no mystery why so many people consider fall their favourite season.  The temperatures is comfortable, the colours are vibrant and every twist and turn of a trail provides a photographer (amateur and professional alike) with another opportunity to capture breath taking views.  I’ve put together a few fall shots to celebrate the peak (in my neck of the woods) of the fall season.I hope the views are just as beautiful where you are.  And a belated Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Canadian readers.

Maple Toffee

With Thanksgiving less than a week away (for us Canadian folks) I thought I would whip up a batch of Maple Toffee to take with me to the two Thanksgiving dinners I will be a guest at.  Well, truth be told, one the dinners will be held at my sister’s house, but I’ll be doing most of the cooking so I guess I’m not really a guest.  Either way, it’s nice to show up with a sweet treat.  People like candy.  This is a really easy recipe.   And if you …

Foggy Photography

One of my favourite things about fall is the fog.  Fog puts on a breathtaking show for me everyday on my way to work.  Unfortunately, I never have time to stop and capture it.  Until this weekend at the cottage.  Fall and fog got together and danced across the lake and  I was finally able to capture a few images.  Here are my two favourites.Of course now I want to print and hang them.  I just don’t have enough wall space in my house for all of the pictures I …

My “It’s Finally Fall” Front Porch

Now that the temperatures have dropped (I couldn’t be happier about it) I felt it was finally appropriate to start traditional fall decorating.  In this house that means pumpkins.  Yesterday I made a quick stop at a local farm to pick up a few to add to my front porch.  The addition of the pumpkins and some fire wood transformed to porch to full blown fall!I spent a total of $16 on the pumpkins – which I thought was a great price considering I picked up two larger white ones, …
