It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas No. 3–Traditional Holiday Vignette

Thanks so much for joining me for the third post in my It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas series.  If you’ve missed a post you can catch up here.
I’ve broken the house rules.  Our halls aren’t suppose to be decked until December 1st.  I couldn’t wait.  I’ve dismantled my winter décor (you can see it here and here) to make room for nutcrackers and candy canes.  The first area I’m going to share with you is the long dresser  (you remember – the one I got for …

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas No.1 – Christmas Morning Table

I’m so excited to kick of my, It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas series today!  It falls purposely in line with the Dare To DIY Challenge being hosted by Décor And The Dog, Maybe Matilda, Newly Woodwards and Two Twenty One.  Today’s “dare” is to entertain.  So that is exactly what I did this weekend.  Well, I didn’t actually entertain, I set a table like I might set one for breakfast on Christmas morning.
I figure, Christmas morning is the only day we can get away with having candy …

Open Shelving & Coffee Station Styled For “Winter”.

I caught the decorating bug when I styled my “winter” vignette in the entry way.  I don’t know what happened.  I thought cozying up that one corner would satisfy me, but it did the opposite!  I couldn’t help myself.  I figured as long as I stuck to the white and clear colour scheme I used to justify my “winter” decorations, a few seasonal items in the kitchen couldn’t hurt.  And hurt they don’t.  I’m kind of, sort of in love with the combination of branches and snowflakes I’ve stumbled upon.  …

Decorating For “Winter”

I don’t usually start putting up Christmas decorations until December 1st.  Not because I don’t want to.  I guess some people around here think that decorating in November is overkill.  Whatever.  If I had my way, the halls would be completely decked already.  But I try to be cooperative.  And by cooperative I mean, I look for clever ways to subtly break the “rules”.  I’ve started decorating for winter.  Not Christmas, winter.  Our front entry table got a seasonal transformation this weekend. It’s just enough to satisfy my desire to cozy …

Let’s Talk About Christmas!

It’s November!  When the heck did that happen?  As much as fall seems to be flying by, I’m happy that Halloween is over (I’m not really a lover of it) with and we can finally talk about Christmas!  I know this might feel too early for some folks, but for me, it’s time.  Today I wanted to talk about themes.  When you decorate for Christmas do you focus on a particular colour scheme and/or theme?  Or do you use the same nostalgic ornaments year after year?  I like to change …

Pretty Presents

Gift wrapping seems to be consuming all of my spare time this week.  Thankfully, I love doing it.  Here are a few (ok – more than a few) pictures of two of my homemade gift tags (see them all here) dangling from pretty presents.

A gift isn’t complete unless there are bells, curled ribbons, candy canes and generous amounts of cellophane.  Don’t you agree?

Homemade Gift Tags

I love to wrap gifts.  It combines two of my loves – creating beautiful things, and making people feel special.  But, admittedly I’ve always dropped the ball when the gift tag portion of wrapping comes up.  Last year I cut up wrapping paper and wrote on the back with blue pen.  Does it get any lazier than that?
It doesn’t seem to matter how much ribbon you curl or cellophane you gather, if there isn’t a grand declaration of “this if for you, because you’re loved and appreciated” a gift just …

Festive Front Porch: 2012

It’s that time of year again.  Time to spruce up the outside of the house for the holidays.  I decorated a few trees on the front porch of our townhouse last year.  Check them out here if you don’t remember.  And  although the exterior of our new house needs a great deal of maintenance and attention, I wanted to spread a little holiday cheer on the porch.  The only criteria for the decor was that it didn’t cost anything, because like we’ve made mention of before, we’re on a budget.  …

It’s Beginning To Look A lot Like Christmas!

We had our first snowfall at our new house on Monday evening.  Something I had been looking forward to.  Christmas is my favourite time of year and I had high expectations for the yard.

It didn’t disappoint.  I fell in love with our house all over again.  And this freshly fallen snow finally put an end to unseasonably warm temperatures that have been making it feel more like Easter than Christmas.  It’s official – the holiday season can begin.
Are you in the holiday spirit yet?  Have you finished your …

Festive Front Porch

The last holiday decorating To-Do I had was the exterior of the house.  We live in a townhome and don’t spend much time on the front porch because there just isn’t enough privacy – so sprucing it up took a back seat to our interior space.  However, in years past I had completely neglected outside all together.  I vowed this year to show the street some Christmas cheer!
So,  a beautiful snow covered trip to the cottage gave Andrew and I the opportunity  to cut down a few Christmas Trees to …
