IKEA Rast Transformation

You know that cheap night stand that almost everyone had in their first college dorm or apartment? The RAST. Well,  unfortunately, two are still kicking around my house.  I hate them.  Well, I thought I hated them.  Turns out, a few hours, a few nail heads and a pot of $1 “oops” paint I scored at Home Depot was all this little ugly needed.

DIY Art For The Office

I mentioned that my to-do list for my new office is still pretty long.  The least important item on the the list is art for the walls.  It’s also the most fun item on the list.  So of course I started there.  This is the second large piece of wall art for the house I have attempted myself (check out the first one here).  I think I pulled it off.  I had a long piece of wood (6’ by 20”) that was already painted black -  I had used as …

Office Progress

There is still a lot of work to do in my new office, but I’ve finally covered up most of the blue, purple, pink and peach paint.  And the orange carpet has been trashed (hallelujah!!).  Three walls have been covered in Valspar’s Aspen Gray (which you’ve seen before in my Sister’s master) and the fourth got a few lovely coats of the leftover Hosta Flower I used on my entry way table (seen here and most recently here – pretty and styled).  I’m absolutely loving the lightness, brightness and sparkle …

The Pinterest Challenge–Coin Magnets

Let me be clear – I use the word challenge very, very loosely when talking about this project.  This will quite possibly be the easiest and laziest entry of all of the Pinterest Challenge entries.  While you all were off creating amazingly creative and cool stuff, I was hot gluing pennies to magnets.  Yep, I made coin magnets.{pinned here.  original source here.}
I mentioned before that a giant chalkboard (8’ long) will be calling our entry way home (as soon as we get our butts around to moving it in from …

Before & After: Large Dresser Reveal

Remember when I scored a matching set of dressers for FREE?  I shared with you the small dresser transformation here.  And today I will share the large dresser transformation.  In case you don’t remember exactly what it looked like before, here is a refresher!Very long (90”), very old, and very ugly.  I’d like to think it’s appearance has improved since then.  We removed the mirror,  covered it in three coats of tuxedo black (to match the dining room doors) semi-gloss paint, and painted the legs hosta flower to tie in …

On The Bandwagon: Crayon Art

Are you looking for a fun way to kill a couple of  hours?  Who isn’t?  In case you are, I highly recommend grabbing a few crayons, a cheap canvas and a hairdryer.  I’m jumped on the crayon art bandwagon this past weekend and I couldn’t believe how much fun it was to melt and re melt wax, over and over again.  It was oddly therapeutic and I was surprised by how pretty my canvas looked when I was done. All you  have to do is heat a chunk of crayon (hold …

Before & After: Small Dresser Reveal

Finally, I’m crossing something off of my to-do list.  It seems like I haven’t actually complete anything in forever.  Remember that small chest of drawers we scored (for FREE) last month? The one I had big plans to make over in a light grey colour, but ended up buying a paint called Hosta Flower, which is basically white.Well, I followed all of your advice and instead of panicking, returning the paint, and starting over, I waited it out.  And of course, you were all right.  Four coats of high gloss later, …

Hosta Flower. Also Known As White.

Over the past week we’ve received a shipment of furniture at our house.  All of the furniture I showed you here, and then some.  I didn’t waste any time getting started on making the entry way chests over, because I’m dying to bring some order back to that room.  Now that the temperatures are dropping, we actually need a place to hang jackets and scarves!  I decided that I wanted to paint the small chest in a light “greige” colour.  I thought that Hosta Flower by Pittsburg Paints was the …

My “It’s Finally Fall” Front Porch

Now that the temperatures have dropped (I couldn’t be happier about it) I felt it was finally appropriate to start traditional fall decorating.  In this house that means pumpkins.  Yesterday I made a quick stop at a local farm to pick up a few to add to my front porch.  The addition of the pumpkins and some fire wood transformed to porch to full blown fall!I spent a total of $16 on the pumpkins – which I thought was a great price considering I picked up two larger white ones, …

Furniture Hoarding

The one downfall of being creative and inspired is that you see potential in everything.  Even old melamine furniture is just waiting to be made over.  And I have no shortage of furniture that is brimming with potential.  I added to my growing hoard collection this weekend.  Who can say no to free furniture? The boy’s Grandmother sold her home and moved in to a retirement residence.  She has graciously offered us any of the furniture we wanted from her house.  I’ve had my eye on a few pieces for …
