IKEA Rast Transformation

You know that cheap night stand that almost everyone had in their first college dorm or apartment? The RAST. Well,  unfortunately, two are still kicking around my house.  I hate them.  Well, I thought I hated them.  Turns out, a few hours, a few nail heads and a pot of $1 “oops” paint I scored at Home Depot was all this little ugly needed.

The Sister’s House–Kitchen Backsplash

I haven’t been as active on the blog in January as I thought I would have been.  Truth be told,  I haven’t really done much in the DIY arena since before Christmas.
Until this past weekend.   I headed to my sister’s house with big backsplash laying plans!  A project that neither her nor I had ever done before, but were confident we could pull of.  I don’t know where this confidence came from but our instincts were right.  The tile laying moved along quickly, the grouting was easier than expected and …

Before & After: Large Dresser Reveal

Remember when I scored a matching set of dressers for FREE?  I shared with you the small dresser transformation here.  And today I will share the large dresser transformation.  In case you don’t remember exactly what it looked like before, here is a refresher!Very long (90”), very old, and very ugly.  I’d like to think it’s appearance has improved since then.  We removed the mirror,  covered it in three coats of tuxedo black (to match the dining room doors) semi-gloss paint, and painted the legs hosta flower to tie in …

The Cottage Shed

Have you seen this shed before? It may have peeked through in a winter wonderland picture I showed you here.  When we first moved in to our house, back in November, I hated it. I thought for sure it would be one of the first things to go once the weather warmed up.However,  It’s starting to grow on me. And the more I think about converting it to a potting shed the more I like it!  It obviously needs some work and I have WAY too many projects on the …

Progress At My Sister’s House!

My sister closed on her house at the end of May.  Since then I’ve been there to visit for two weekends and we’ve made some progress.  The first real project we tackled was cleaning, priming and painting the walls in the master bedroom.  I think the results are pretty fantastic.  I love the paint colour (Aspen Gray – Valspar) and the floor colour seems so much more alive now that the baseboards are slathered in white semi-gloss. Check out how the room looked to begin with – too much wood! And …

Ebony & Ivory Pebble Frames

For days I was all over the place thinking of what I  should do in the second frame I spruced up here.  When I realized, I should just keep things simple and create another pebble arrangement.  Why not? The pebbles are free,  they look cute and they fit with the vision I have for my entry way.  Of course I wanted it to be a little bit more interesting than a repeat so I scoured my collection for the greyish black rocks (and when I say collection, I mean the …

Before & After Picture Frames

This weekend, we focused on clearing the basement and sheds of renovation debris, old carpets, and junk left behind by the previous owners.  I stumbled upon a few picture frames that could have easily been tossed in the bin but decided they had some potential.  I guess I’m the only one who thinks so because the “$6.00 for the  pair” sticker suggest that they were left over from a yard sale.  What did they expect?  If I saw these at a yard sale I’d pay a buck each.  Tops.Kind of …

Summer Porch Transformation

I hope all of my American readers had a fantastic Memorial Day!  Our long weekend fell a week ago and it made me realize – It’s basically summer time!  When the heck did that happen?  My front porch was looking pretty pathetic so I decided to spruce it up a bit.  Unfortunately the selection of pots and outdoor accessories I had around here was a pretty sad looking group.  I don’t know if any of you have looked for pots lately but they’re crazy expensive and I haven’t even seen …

Open Shelving Reveal

The open shelving in the kitchen is finally done!  For now at least.  This area strikes me as one that will be constantly evolving with the seasons and my mood.  For now, I’m digging the rustic farmhouse look – I think that’s illustrated pretty well in how I styled the shelves and the intentional distressing of the shelves themselves.  I can’t believe how much this wall has changed since we moved in six months ago.  I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.  Let me remind you of what we were …

Front Garden– Before & After

The biggest surprise I’ve gotten since we moved in to our house is how much I enjoy doing the yard work.  It’s a good thing because our lot is just under 4 acres and the previous owners loved plants.  Unfortunately they didn’t really do anything to maintain them and they planted them in the most random places.  Thankfully I’m learning how to transplant, and the abundance of foliage around here is going to save us a lot of money when it comes to filling out our gardens.  With such a …
