Pretty Presents

Gift wrapping seems to be consuming all of my spare time this week.  Thankfully, I love doing it.  Here are a few (ok – more than a few) pictures of two of my homemade gift tags (see them all here) dangling from pretty presents.

A gift isn’t complete unless there are bells, curled ribbons, candy canes and generous amounts of cellophane.  Don’t you agree?

Homemade Gift Tags

I love to wrap gifts.  It combines two of my loves – creating beautiful things, and making people feel special.  But, admittedly I’ve always dropped the ball when the gift tag portion of wrapping comes up.  Last year I cut up wrapping paper and wrote on the back with blue pen.  Does it get any lazier than that?
It doesn’t seem to matter how much ribbon you curl or cellophane you gather, if there isn’t a grand declaration of “this if for you, because you’re loved and appreciated” a gift just …

House Tour: Future Office

Today we thought we would share with you a little bedroom off of the living room.  In the future this room will most likely function as our home office.  It’s a fairly small room, so creative furniture placement and storage solutions will be key factors in making this an efficient work space.  We aren’t really at that point yet because as you will see below, there is plenty to do before we start decorating.  Here is the picture that was included in the MLS listing.  It’s funny how they make …

Basement Progress: Up, Up and Away

As we mentioned yesterday, the first item on our to do list for the “finished” portion of the basement was to get rid of the carpet.  Like the rest of the carpet in the house, it was old and smelly.  Now, I have to say, removing basement carpet is a delight in comparison to the carpets upstairs – no tack strips, no staples, no sore back.  In case you don’t remember, here is a picture of what the basement looked like before.

And here it is during…

And a few after shots…

It’s …

House Tour: Basement

I’m going to warn you now.  This house has a big basement.  A big, ugly basement.  This post is heavy on pictures but light on pretty.  And it’s a bit confusing.  We will try to get a floor plan put together so you have a better idea of how this place all flows together.  I’ll do my best to explain it as we go.  Let’s get on with the gong show.
There are two staircases to the basement (which we l.o.v.e.), one off of the kitchen at the back of the …

Festive Front Porch: 2012

It’s that time of year again.  Time to spruce up the outside of the house for the holidays.  I decorated a few trees on the front porch of our townhouse last year.  Check them out here if you don’t remember.  And  although the exterior of our new house needs a great deal of maintenance and attention, I wanted to spread a little holiday cheer on the porch.  The only criteria for the decor was that it didn’t cost anything, because like we’ve made mention of before, we’re on a budget.  …

Back Bedroom Progress Report

We’re getting there.  Slowly but surely.  In case you don’t remember, here is what our back bedroom looked like when we moved in two exhausting short weeks ago.  Check out other pictures here.

Yikes!  Removing the carpets was the first item on our to-do list in here.  And after seeing the under side, we’re happy that we didn’t even attempt cleaning them.  I can rest easier knowing they have already been taken to the dump.  And even without flooring or paint, the room looks (and smells) much better.

In the …

It’s Beginning To Look A lot Like Christmas!

We had our first snowfall at our new house on Monday evening.  Something I had been looking forward to.  Christmas is my favourite time of year and I had high expectations for the yard.

It didn’t disappoint.  I fell in love with our house all over again.  And this freshly fallen snow finally put an end to unseasonably warm temperatures that have been making it feel more like Easter than Christmas.  It’s official – the holiday season can begin.
Are you in the holiday spirit yet?  Have you finished your …
