The Pinterest Challenge–Coin Magnets

Let me be clear – I use the word challenge very, very loosely when talking about this project.  This will quite possibly be the easiest and laziest entry of all of the Pinterest Challenge entries.  While you all were off creating amazingly creative and cool stuff, I was hot gluing pennies to magnets.  Yep, I made coin magnets.{pinned here.  original source here.}
I mentioned before that a giant chalkboard (8’ long) will be calling our entry way home (as soon as we get our butts around to moving it in from …

Before & After: Large Dresser Reveal

Remember when I scored a matching set of dressers for FREE?  I shared with you the small dresser transformation here.  And today I will share the large dresser transformation.  In case you don’t remember exactly what it looked like before, here is a refresher!Very long (90”), very old, and very ugly.  I’d like to think it’s appearance has improved since then.  We removed the mirror,  covered it in three coats of tuxedo black (to match the dining room doors) semi-gloss paint, and painted the legs hosta flower to tie in …

Thrify Finds–Underwood Electric 555

Who pays $19.99 for an obsolete piece of office equipment?  I do.  I have a weakness for old electronics.  I don’t know why, but I just can’t say no. So when I stumbled upon an 80’s style typewriter while perusing Value Village, there was no question – this would be mine.  It’s fully functioning and the ink is still available!I haven’t decided exactly where it will go yet, but I’m confident it will find a lovely home and I will smile at it every time I walk by.  You …

On The Bandwagon: Crayon Art

Are you looking for a fun way to kill a couple of  hours?  Who isn’t?  In case you are, I highly recommend grabbing a few crayons, a cheap canvas and a hairdryer.  I’m jumped on the crayon art bandwagon this past weekend and I couldn’t believe how much fun it was to melt and re melt wax, over and over again.  It was oddly therapeutic and I was surprised by how pretty my canvas looked when I was done.All you  have to do is heat a chunk of crayon (hold …

A Picture Is Worth 4000 Words: Fall Photo

I’m taking advantage of fall.  I’m spending as much time as I can outside, while the temperature is as beautiful as the view.  Before you know it we will be snow covered here in Ontario, and while I love the way freshly fallen snow looks, I don’t love the below (well, well, well below) freezing temperatures that come with it.  This weekend we took a beautiful walk with the dogs and I capture a few fall images.  Here is my favourite.  I’ve edited it four different ways and of course …

My Entry Way Art Plan

Since our entry way is fairly large, I decided that I wanted to keep most of the art work on a large scale too.  I considered hanging another gallery wall, but decided that the cost (frames are expensive) and the up keep (I get bored easily) were too much money and work.Because the colours  in our entry way are perfectly echoed (intentionally) in the art work I made a few months back I decided that it would hang above the small chest of drawers.The second large piece calling the entry …

Before & After: Small Dresser Reveal

Finally, I’m crossing something off of my to-do list.  It seems like I haven’t actually complete anything in forever.  Remember that small chest of drawers we scored (for FREE) last month?The one I had big plans to make over in a light grey colour, but ended up buying a paint called Hosta Flower, which is basically white.Well, I followed all of your advice and instead of panicking, returning the paint, and starting over, I waited it out.  And of course, you were all right.  Four coats of high gloss later, …

Falling For Fall Photography

It’s no mystery why so many people consider fall their favourite season.  The temperatures is comfortable, the colours are vibrant and every twist and turn of a trail provides a photographer (amateur and professional alike) with another opportunity to capture breath taking views.  I’ve put together a few fall shots to celebrate the peak (in my neck of the woods) of the fall season.I hope the views are just as beautiful where you are.  And a belated Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Canadian readers.

Eye Candy: Giant Chalkboards

Chalkboards are every where.  That’s not news to anyone.  And although I know some people are growing sick of this trend I’m still loving it.  But I’m not talking about average chalkboards here.  I’m talking about chalkboards: supersized.  I can’t get enough of massive chalkboards.  Giant, wall consuming, doodle collecting, art displaying chalkboards.  And they seem to work in almost any décor situation – industrial, contemporary,  elegant, rustic…dining rooms, living rooms, kitchens, studios, wherever.{click images for sources}
What do you think?  Are you over the chalkboard trend?  Do you like them …
