They’re Outta Here–Living Room Progress

13 January 2012 8 Comments

I know you’ve seen glimpses of our living room in other posts and the carpet has obviously been removed.  But I never shared pictures of the room after the removal.  So here is a quick spin around our bare

naked living room.  The lighting is a little off in some of the pictures.  I don’t really know why that is, but I’m working on figuring it out (at some point this year).

All of the tack strips, staples, nails and gum (who knew contractors just spit their gum out and then laid carpet on top of it!?) were removed from the floor before we rolled out a gigantic rug to keep our toes warm until we’re ready for flooring – which will probably be a while.  Wow, we really are all over the place around here – from the living room, to the kitchen, to the basement, to the back bedroom, to the foyer.  We’ve made a little bit of progress everywhere but a lot of progress nowhere.  We have home improvement ADD.  It’s going to be a snowy, cold weekend around here though, so hopefully we move forward on one of the projects we’ve got going on.  Who knows though, we might start on something new!

    Looks good so far!

I’m not sure if you’ve said anything about it before, but is there something special about the ceiling?

I’d be all over the place if my husband didn’t make me focus on one thing at a time!

Hey Brandi! Yes, the ceilings are “special” as you put it. They have been hand “swirled” and they look like they belong in a casino. Hopefully they will all be gone some day.

Hey Ashley, Yeah I think in this relationship we’re both equally all over the place. Neither one of us is that great at staying focused on one thing. It’s difficult when there is SO MUCH to do.

I wonder how they created that “special” ceiling, and how you plan on fixing it? Do you have to remove it, or does it scrape off? Good luck!!

That’s a great sized living room!! I can’t wait to see what you transform it into. Are you guys thinking of painting the fireplace at all…or do you think you’ll keep the brick? I know many people have very strong feelings about both options.

Hey Kelly! From what I can tell the ceilings were created with some sort of plaster. They are about an inch lower than the ceilings in the rest of the house which makes us think they aren’t original. We will probably end up removing the drywall to gain the extra space. I think it will probably be less work to take them down all together than to cover them up or scrape it off. We’ll see how it goes. We’re probably a while away from that project. And Thanks for the wish of luck – we’re going to need it!

Hey Gabbi! I want to paint the fireplace white but the boy wants to leave it as is. I think he is slowly warming up to the idea of painting it but I still have some pretty major convincing to do. I’m sure Pinterest will come in handy because he has a hard time visualizing things – like most men. I’ll keep you posted!
