And The Walls Come Tumbling Down–Basement Progress

26 January 2012 6 Comments

Ok they probably didn’t come tumbling down.  I’m sure there was much more work involved than that.  I wish I could say that I had a hand in the progress that has been made in the basement, but I really haven’t done much down there besides transfer a few boards from one room to another – one time.  So I have to give the man of the house all of the credit for the progress thus far.  He’s been busy.  And he’s done a great job.  Here is what the “son’s room” looked like the day we moved in.

Here it is the last time I shared with you.

And here it is, if you can believe it’s the same space, last night.

January 2012 007I can’t believe how much bigger it looks.  And it’s so much brighter now that the wall between it and the laundry room is down to studs.  Speaking of the laundry room, here is what it looked like the day we moved in.  Wow!  That’s a scary room.

And here it is last night!  Let there be light!  I’m so happy to see those cabinets down and the space looking a bit brighter and cleaner.

And the hallway is looking better too.  Check it out, the day we moved in.November 2011 603 - Copy

And then last night!  It feels so much wider and more functional without all of that bulky cabinetry.  Which, by the way weren’t the easiest things to remove.  Oh yeah, that’s the only other thing I did down here – got in the way while they tried to take those beasts down. January 2012 005

And the main area of this side of the basement has lost a few walls.  The one at the back as well as the closet.  This is what it looked like in the last basement progress post.

And here it is today. Notice that the entire wall to the left has been stripped of drywall. January 2012 010

This basement is going to be huge!  I can’t wait to see just how big this room is when that gigantic pile of debris is cleaned up.  We’re going to rent a bin but we need to wait until there isn’t a threat of snow or rain – no use paying to dispose of water.  We’re on a budget remember.  So demolition has been keeping the boy busy while the mudroom and my gallery wall has been keeping me busy.  I feel like I lucked out in that trade off.  What has been keeping you guys busy these days?

It looks so huge! What a transformation! What are your plans for the basement? I’ve been wondering.

Hi Ashely! The one side of the basement will be a workshop while we complete our renovations. It will probably eventually be turned in to a smaller work shop and workout room. The other side of the basement will become a recreation room – but probably not for a while. It’s basically last on the list as of right now. We’ll keep you posted if plans change…and they most likely will.

    Wow, making great progress!!

And by the way, a box with a puppy paw print is the cutest idea ever. I might make one for my sister :)
