Kitchen Painting Progress

15 February 2012 11 Comments

We wasted no time trying to make our kitchen look a little bit better when we first bought our house in the middle of November.  We started stripping wallpaper the day after we got the keys.  And of course, that exposed a, better than stained wallpaper, but still ugly paint job and walls in need of some attention.  We lost a little bit of steam in the kitchen while we worked on other things (carpet removal, basement demolition, mudroom sprucing) and the kitchen had pretty much sat with globs of drywall mud on them for the past few months, just begging for some attention.  I’m happy to say that this weekend our kitchen walls finally got the attention they, and we, deserved.  In case you don’t remember what we walked in to, here is one of our kitchen walls when we first moved in.November 2011 585And here it is after the wallpaper came down.DSC_0049 And again here after two coast of utterly beige went up and a fresh coat of semi – gloss white went on the trim!February 2012 030February 2012 041 Is it just me or is the new paint job even helping the floor look a bit better?  We’re still planning on doing a full renovation in the next year or so – fingers crossed that nothing comes up and sucks our kitchen money down the drain.  In the meantime though, this is helping me enjoy my kitchen just a little bit more.  And I’m not finished in here yet.  I plan to paint the cabinets to match the trim, move the hardware, and figure out something to play down the ugly in the countertop.  Stay tuned for pictures of the rest of the kitchen later in the week.diana

It looks so much better!! I am always amazed by what a fresh coat of paint can do.

I seriously don’t understand wallpaper. I feel like for years people have spent tons of time pulling down outdated wallpaper and now for some reason it’s back in. Sheesh!

Hey Ladies, Thank you all! I’m with you guys! I don’t think I’ll be doing any wallpaper in this house. There are so many great paint treatments around now wallpaper isn’t really needed. And an ugly paint job is sooo much easier to get rid of!

What a difference! Love the color you picked out! It does help with the floor… brings out some of the darker tones. Really pretty!

The floor does look better! I think it’s pulling more of the greyish tones out. Good work! ;)

    Thanks ladies!
Michelle is right, the paint pulls out all of the grey tones in the floor and I plan on maximizing that! I can’t wait to get started on my furniture piece! Of course, I’ll keep you all posted!

Wow, huge difference! Have you thought about painting the countertops as a short term fix until you remodel? I think it would be an easy, inexpensive project to tide you over.
