The Painted Kitchen & The Next Item On The To–Do List

23 February 2012 12 Comments

I realized today, after my extra long weekend that I never posted any follow-up pictures of the kitchen after our big paint job.  And although the lighting isn’t great I thought I would at least give you a shot of our utterly beige walls from another angle.  Remember our kitchen when we first moved in?  If not, here is an ugly reminder.  Blue trim, dirty caulking, stained wallpaper and a generous amount of food left from the previous owners – delightful.November 2011 516February 2012 144
And above is a similar angle with the first item on our “in the meantime” kitchen to – do list complete.  The next project on the list is to paint the furniture piece I plan on placing under the floating cabinets on the other side of the room.  The colour of the below picture is a more accurate illustration of how the room looks in person.  We have to replace the yellow bulbs in all of the lights in this house.  They’re awful.  But back to the furniture piece.  It’s going to go right under those cabinets.  I’m hoping that it will help balance the room a little bit better and make those uppers look a little less out of place.February 2012 041Do you remember the chest of drawers the previous owners left behind in their son’s room?  Well, I’m taking advantage of their laziness and making it over for this space.  Yay for free furniture!  In case you don’t remember what it looked like, here it is.November 2011 605 - CopyI will be removing the mirror, painting the wood and replacing the hardware.  And I’ve already picked and bought the paint!  Stay tuned for all of the details.diana

Wow I can’t believe they left the place that way! And even left furniture?! I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with that piece! Your kitchen looks great now too! Good luck!

Gotta love a freebie! I think your “in the meantime” kitchen looks great! It cleaned up really nicely.

Was this house a foreclosure? Sort of seems that way, or just lazy previous owners. The kitchen is lookin’ awesome & I can’t wait to see what you do with that leftover furniture!

Hey Melanie, No this house was not a foreclosure. We even met the previous owners! I think they just ran out of time. They’re an older couple and they had a massive move so I guess they just couldn’t do it all. As first I was angry that I had so much to clean up but some of the stuff they left is pretty decent so I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

The kitchen looks way better already! And way to take advantage of the dresser being left over! I think it will look great under the cabinets. Can’t wait to see what you do with it!

You guys have really improved the appearance of the kitchen already!!

And a major YAY for free furniture! Gotta love when you just have to pay for the items to spruce it up a bit! :) Can’t wait to see the “after”.

I really like the color you chose! Would you mind sharing what it is? And that piece of furniture is going to look great in your kitchen – it’ll really help balance things out. Can’t wait to see how you transform it!

Hey Regan! The colour we used is called Utterly Beige by Sherwin Williams. It’s a nice beige colour with a bit of a pinkish/greyish undertone. I hope that helps!
