Stripping On A Friday Night
Remember the last time I posted about our entry way? No? Neither did I. It was way back on January 2nd. And we haven’t done a darn thing to it since then. Can you believe there has been half stripped wall paper staring me in the face everyday for months and I haven’t done anything about it? I was too wrapped up in the kitchen to even think about the foyer. Our “in the meantime” kitchen fix is nowhere near complete, but I decided I could step away from it for a bit to make a little progress elsewhere. Last night after work and while the other half was at hockey, I got started on stripping the remaining wallpaper. It’s an oddly satisfying job. I don’t know how long I worked on this – I know I heard a full episode of How I Met Your Mother and a full episode of 30 Rock coming from the living room so it was at least an hour. And I’m nowhere near finished. But it’s great to see progress. Here is what it had been looking like since January. Don’t judge me because my house is a disaster. Ok, maybe you should.
And here is what it looked like after an hour or so of elbow grease. Baby steps. Small victories keep my going. Is it strange that I’m super pumped to strip wallpaper on my Friday night? I figure the sooner I get it done, the sooner I can get back to the kitchen and finish my second fauxman shade.
And just for fun, lets take a peek at what this room looked like when we first moved in. Oh gosh. It actually looked better didn’t it?
What do you have planned for your Friday night? Tell me it’s more exciting than stripping wallpaper.

Wow, that is a lot of wall paper, haha. Good luck!
Those are some odd stairs!
Don’t worry…you always have to make it look worse before it can look better!
I’m just as cool as you, and tackling my closet organization tonight!! Haha.
I’ve never had to strip wallpaper before, but from what I’ve seen on tv it looks like a serious pain. I can see why it was still in that spot too. Over the stairs removal seems like no fun!
I have a birthday dinner and drinks tonight, but I’m sure the rest of my weekend will be filled with home related things (and The Hunger Games).
That’s actually a really striking entrance! You could do a million amazing things there and I can’t wait to see!
I also had to giggle at your doggie. Mine photobombs all my pics too.
Kate, Yep! Lots and lots of wallpaper in this house. The kitchen was completely papered too. What a pain. Thankfully we’ve had lots of help getting rid of it.
Gabbi, Closet organization – that’s on my never ending to-do list too! I’d rather be doing that!
Melanie, Yes that stair case is a little unusual. It speaks to the house’s age – 1980. But we’re keeping it. It needs a bit of a makeover but the curved stair case is unique and we think it could be really stunning when we’re all done with it!
Brandi, Stripping wallpaper is a MAJOR pain. But the whole time I was doing it I was thinking this place would look so good with a nice wallpaper on top and beadboard on the bottom. I have a feeling I won’t be allowed to wallpaper anything in the house though. Perhpas a stencil would be a better choice.
Amy, Yes this entrance has sooo much potential. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
I hope you all have a great weekend!

I love the curved staircase. That’s such a cool feature that you don’t find in a lot of houses. Not much more wallpaper left!
You’re definitely making progress! Keep it up! I’m excited to see what you do with this space!
oh god! wallpaper stripping is next on my list! isn’t it frustrating how it always looks worse before it starts to look better?? haha.
at least our wallpaper doesn’t look like it is in as good of shape as yours…hopefully it will come off more easily!
Love the post title.
That looks like one heck of a project! Hope it goes smoothly!
I really do love this foyer/entrance! It is going to be so beautiful when you’re done!
[...] I’ll share them later on this week. And in case you were expecting a progress update on the wallpaper stripping in the entry way, all I can say is it’s not done. Not even close. What did you get up [...]
Ugh…HATE stripping wallpaper! Looks like you’re almost there though! I love the stairs/banister in your entryway btw – very cool.
This is quite the entryway! You’ve definitely made some serious headway on the wallpaper removal and I can’t wait to see it finished!
Hey Kristen, Yeah it’s a pretty big entry way and it’s loaded with potential but it might be a while before it’s all finished. I hope you have some staying power!
