Kitchen Lack Of Progress Report

8 May 2012 8 Comments

It has been insanely gorgeous here over the past few days, which is fantastic for our yard.  We’ve been out and about, weeding, transplanting, raking and scraping.  It’s starting to look like we actually live here and care about our house.  Unfortunately for the kitchen, the nice weather has completely shifted my focus – and my open shelving project is at a bit of a stand still.  I slathered two layers of wood fill in the cracks and holes before I bailed.  However, it’s supposed to rain all week.  I’m hoping to do my third and final layer of wood fill tonight, sand tomorrow night and paint on Thursday.  Here is a peek at the state of the cabinets now.May 2012 001May 2012 002May 2012 003So far this project has taught me that wood filler is messy and unpleasant.  I’d much rather be working on my gardens – never thought I would hear myself say that!  Has the shift in temperature also shifted your focus?  Are you struggling to balance your indoor projects with your outdoor projects?  I’ve decided to just let the weather decide for me.diana

Ooooooo, open shelving. Can’t wait to see!

It’s definitely hard when it’s so nice outside to try to stick to indoor projects. I’m sure your focus will shift again when it gets hot, so keeping plugging away outside when you can.

I feel your pain – I’ve been working on a sunburst mirror for literally MONTHS now. Every single time I have the free time to lug that thing outside and sand & stain it, it was either raining, snowing, or going to rain that night. It’s still sitting in the storage room waiting for some love – maybe next week? They are calling for rain here every single day this week!

Can’t wait to see how your open shelving will look. Any other progress in the house besides the kitchen?

Hey Brandi, You’re absolutely right. Our focus will probably shift back indoors when it’s too hot to handle outside.

Melanie, So frustrating about your mirror. We haven’t really made any other progress inside. Lots outside though! I’ll post pictures soon!

The cabinets will be there, the nice weather might only be temporary. so I’d say spend that time outside!!! :)

I’m so excited about the open shelving! Will you be painting the inside of the cabinets too?? You should do a fun color to spice things up! :)

I agree with Whitney! Use the weather to guide you. No worries if your indoor projects “suffer” while you tackle your exterior! Can’t wait to see your finished product!

Hey Ashely – Yes I will be painting the inside. I don’t know if I will be spicing things up or not. That brown has got to go though!

I love the title of this! Keep in mind something a very wise girl recently told me – a house doesn’t have to be complete to feel like home… :)
