Hosta Flower. Also Known As White.
Over the past week we’ve received a shipment of furniture at our house. All of the furniture I showed you here, and then some. I didn’t waste any time getting started on making the entry way chests over, because I’m dying to bring some order back to that room. Now that the temperatures are dropping, we actually need a place to hang jackets and scarves! I decided that I wanted to paint the small chest in a light “greige” colour. I thought that Hosta Flower by Pittsburg Paints was the perfect shade. Online it looks a little bit more taupe and on the swatch it looks a little bit more grey. Unfortunately, on the furniture it just looks white to me. Well, it’s not bright white, it’s more of a mushroom colour. In case you don’t remember what the small chest looks like, here she is in her original home.
And here she in in her new home, right before I attacked her with my foam roller.
After two coats of Hosta Flower, she looks like this.![]()
It looks pretty darn white doesn’t it? I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing at this point. I still have at least two coats to go and I have to remove the legs to paint them and add new hardware. I think I will ride it out and see how it looks when all is said and done. My plan is to keep the brass feet and buy brass drawer pulls to match. Brass? Who knew!? I have plans for the long chest that include dark paint so this hit of lightness and brightness might be the perfect balance. I guess we will have to wait and see.![]()

Gorgeous! I love those feet just as they are.
Love it! Definitely agree to keep the feet as-is.
How do you like Pittsburgh Paints? I have a store 5 minutes from my house but haven’t been in there yet.
I like the color! When it’s all done, I think it will be obvious that it isn’t bright white in the space. I’m actually really liking the legs left as is! either way, the brass accents will look great!
Hey Kate!
I wasn’t sure what to do with the legs but I hit them with the roller a few times by accident – so decision made. They will have to be painted. I will be leaving the brass though.
Hi Christine!
I actually just colour matched the paint at Home Depot. I bought Behr High Gloss. The same paint I used for the furniture in the kitchen because I loved that finish.

I love it white!
I love the leg detail on the chest! Especially the little bit of brass at the bottom.
I’d say ride it out. So far I think it looks great.
I agree with everyone! Leave the feet! I think it’s going to look great!
Love this piece! The feet are amazing! I think the colour looks great- it does read as white but I think it still works!
I love the color! Of course, I know things can look way different in person than they do online…but I say stick it out, and see how it looks 100% finished.
PS-I have found a new love for some brass things too….so CRAY! I am very happy I kept the original brass hardware on my buffet makeover for my dining room. It really adds an awesome touch of charm.
Your title made me laugh
The chest is looking great and I LOVE the brass on the legs. Will you put new hardware on?
Love the white! It looks fantastic!
It’s a little hard to tell by the picture. Maybe I’m trying to see a bit of gray in the colour, or it does have a bit of gray in it. As I looked at the first post-paint photo, I thought to myself, “cool, maybe she isn’t painting the feet”. Then I read all the comments and it looks like everyone here feels that you shouldn’t either! Whatever you decide though, it will look great.
That looks great; I love that it was free =) It’s going to look great with the new hardware. Maybe you can paint them dark to cover up where you hit the legs with the white?
[...] one I had big plans to make over in a light grey colour, but ended up buying a paint called Hosta Flower, which is basically white.Well, I followed all of your advice and instead of panicking, returning [...]
