On The Bandwagon: Crayon Art

24 October 2012 21 Comments

Are you looking for a fun way to kill a couple of  hours?  Who isn’t?  In case you are, I highly recommend grabbing a few crayons, a cheap canvas and a hairdryer.  I’m jumped on the crayon art bandwagon this past weekend and I couldn’t believe how much fun it was to melt and re melt wax, over and over again.  It was oddly therapeutic and I was surprised by how pretty my canvas looked when I was done.Crayon Art 1 WM Crayon Art 2 WMCrayon Art 3 WMCrayon Art 4 WMAll you  have to do is heat a chunk of crayon (hold it with a fork if you don’t want burnt fingers) and manipulate which way the wax flows by moving the hairdryer.  You’ll get the hang of it after you melt a few pieces.  Repeat.  Repeat.  Repeat. Done.  What do you guys think?  Not bad for a dollar store canvas and a few crayons, right?diana

I linked up! You should too! And here too! Check out the DIY Project Parade!

    I hit enter too soon…

Did you paint the canvas that sky blue first and then do crayons on top of it or is all the colour on there wax?

  • Girl (author) said:

Hey Christine! I didn’t use any paint for this. All of that colour is wax if you can believe it. Like I said, it took a few hours but wasn’t it so worth it? I hope you give it a try!

Very cool! I don’t know if I’d have enough free time (2 small boys) or the sanity (two small boys!) to do this but it looks so great! Maybe I’ll have to file it away for when (two small boys) are older :)

Thanks for dropping in on us Heidi! Yes, this is a time consuming little project. It takes some patience that’s for sure. But the great thing is, you can stop whenever you want and return later…as soon as the wax gets hot again you can continue to manipulate it.

Totally loving that color!! If there was some aqua, yellow and gray it’d go perfectly in my casa! I’m going to have to try this out. I defintely pinned it on Pinterest and never went past there.

I have NEVER heard of crayon art where you melt the wax first. You canvas looks amazing! It’s something to definitely try.

One of these would look great in your place Gabbi!

Hey Antonella, Maybe I didn’t explain my self very well, you hold the piece of crayon an the canvas with a fork and then melt it chunk by chunk. Hope that helps!

This is so pretty. It’s in my favorite colors. :) I’ve only melted wax in little tiny sections on projects and used a tiny collar iron applied directly to the crayon so a hair dryer is really intriguing. Very cool!

  • Girl (author) said:

Thanks Shannon! You should give a larger piece with the hair dryer a try! It was pretty enjoyable and you end up with a real one of a kind!
