Before & After: Large Dresser Reveal

29 October 2012 17 Comments

Remember when I scored a matching set of dressers for FREE?  I shared with you the small dresser transformation here.  And today I will share the large dresser transformation.  In case you don’t remember exactly what it looked like before, here is a refresher!IMG-20120916-00292Very long (90”), very old, and very ugly.  I’d like to think it’s appearance has improved since then.  We removed the mirror,  covered it in three coats of tuxedo black (to match the dining room doors) semi-gloss paint, and painted the legs hosta flower to tie in the smaller dresser.  We have an opposites attract thing happening.  Check it out.Large Dresser After 2 Large Dresser After 3As well as with the smaller dresser I decided to keep the original hardware.  I wanted to do real pulls, but couldn’t find any large enough. And I’m actually kind of loving the vintage vibe the original hardware provides.  I do plan on capping the corners in brass, so they match the smaller piece.  I’ll share that update when it happens.  Again, I had my doubts about painting these press board pieces but I’ve been pleasantly surprised with their transformations.  It makes me wonder how many great pieces I’ve turned my nose up at over the years, thinking they couldn’t be saved.  Shame on me.diana

Love what you’ve done! I have a very similar chest and bedside table, and plan to attempt this with my pieces. Mine are quite ugly but so functional, I’ve kept them in a secret place!! Now they can come out in the open!! Thanks, Jillee!

It looks absolutely beautiful!! I love the old hardware on it. I found that it’s really hard to find the right lengths when swapping out vintage-ish hardware. I ended up keeping the old stuff on a couple of my pieces and I loved the look with the more modern color scheme.
