Our First Year As Homeowners
Can you believe it’s been a year since we closed on our house? Honestly, I can’t. It’s true what they say, time flies when you’re having fun, or when you’re busy and exhausted. The biggest lessons I have learned in this past year, are that nothing happens over night and projects always take way longer and cost way more than you expect them to. But I wouldn’t trade this past year for anything. I’m having so much fun making this house ours. I thought I would do a quick comparison of a few of the areas in our house that have gotten the most attention over the past year. ![]()

I’m so happy that all of the wallpaper in the house has finally been removed! We obviously have a long way to go in this house. We still have plywood floors everywhere, no window treatments anywhere but in the kitchen, five bathrooms that haven’t even been used, two bedrooms that need to be converted back to a garage, a roof that needs to be replaced and more…and more…and more. But for now I’m just thankful that our house is becoming a space that we enjoying spending time in, that we have the room we need to do all of the things we eventually want to, and that it sits on a lot we wouldn’t change for the world. (The snowy picture was taken last January. We have only gotten flurries so far this year. I’m patiently waiting.)![]()
If you want to see more pictures of what our house looked like when we first moved in, check out our House Tour Series. Warning, you will be subjected to very ugly pictures, dirty carpets, and wallpaper that will make you feel insane.![]()

You have done a fantastic job! You’ve got a great eye, and everything has turned out beautifully!
Wow, that is a big list you still have to endure. But I went through it too. We are closing in on 5 years in our home. You’re right – things always take longer and cost more than you anticipate. In the end, it was worth it all!
Congrats on your 1 yr, and many more to come!
You guys have made a ton of tremendous progress!
I love the areas that you have been able to transform! And isn’t it crazy how fast time flies? I can’t believe we bought our place a little over a year ago…and on Christmas Eve, we’ll have lived here for a whole year!
Time does fly! You guys have made a lot of progress, and everything looks awesome so far.
