House Tour: Future Office

15 December 2011 9 Comments

Today we thought we would share with you a little bedroom off of the living room.  In the future this room will most likely function as our home office.  It’s a fairly small room, so creative furniture placement and storage solutions will be key factors in making this an efficient work space.  We aren’t really at that point yet because as you will see below, there is plenty to do before we start decorating.  Here is the picture that was included in the MLS listing.  It’s funny how they make everything appear much larger than it actually is. bedroom4_1200

The picture below is a better representation of the room size.  I have to stand in the hallway to get a shot of the full far end of the room otherwise the pictures are pretty close.  As you can see, the love affair with the ceiling fan continues in this room as well as the casino ceilings, which much to my horror are starting to grow on a certain member of our two person family.

We haven’t decided if the closet should stay to help with storage in here or if expanding the foot print would be a better use of space.  But like I said, there is plenty to keep us busy while we decide exactly how to utilize this room.  First on the list, get rid of the carpets.  Is anyone surprised by that?  It seems to be the first item on every room’s to-do list in this house.

There you have it.  A quick spin around our future office space.  Are we dreaming?  Are two people who refuse to share a desk going to be able to function in this tiny room?  I guess we’ll find out.

You could definitely function! What if you got a giant desk or built one in like YHL did? http://www.younghouselove.com/2011/09/attack-of-the-13-foot-counter/

Hey Ashley! I have thought about a built in like YHL. That may be the way we end up going. It certainly would save some floor space. We have a large wood desk that we would like to make use of but I could repurpose it in another room should we decide to do built ins. Thanks for the suggestion!

It’s so funny that you mentioned how the MLS listing pictures can make rooms larger than they actually are…because when I first saw the picture, I thought to myself, well that’s not too small hahaha! Oh, the tricks people can play with cameras!

And I REALLY can’t believe those ceilings are growing on anyone! They are up there with popcorn ceilings on my list of things that must removed from older homes.

Can’t wait to see how you guys decide to set up the room! :)

The ceiling is relaxing. It’s like soft puffy clouds everywhere in the house. And it gives us something to look at when we’re staring at the ceiling because we’re broke and have no TV!

But they’ll probably end up going when it’s all said and done. I can see them causing serious problems if we ever miscalculate where to drill a hole for a potlight.

I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out something that will work perfect for you. And I feel your pain about the ceiling. The whole first floor of my townhouse looked like that. Ugh!

The size difference is amazing between the MLS listing and your photos.
